In that case its a 1995 vehicle that doesn't have the relay!Northern Bongolow wrote: there are no relays on the inner wing on that side of the motor,

I also suspect that it was found that the switches weren't up to handling the current, I was a bit surprised myself to see the Flash switch contacts handling it directly! In the later versions they added the relay for the main switch but it probably wasn't cost effective to add yet another relay to handle the Flash switch.

As far as I can make out, the Main and Dip beams are still going through the stalk switch, as is the flash. All I can see the relay doing is protecting the initial rotary part of the switch, as this is operating the headlight relay, but the current to the main and dip filaments is still going through the HI / LO switch. I'm surprised that they didn't have a HI relay and a LO relay, and the flash wired to operate the HI relay as well.

Agree but it does mean that the current isn't flowing when the contact makes, as the relay will take a few milliseconds to pull in and that's when the highest current will flow thru the cold lamp. But its still going to have to break the working current.

Re: headlights gone kaput
thanks for the info and the diagrams guys, i think i followed what you were saying dave
.
this makes sense as i think karens is one of the oldest ones, and her bongo is too.
.
we have a 95 manual and a 96 auto so will cross compare, but as usual with bongo's nothing seems straight forward with early/change over/ upgrades,as they seem to overlap by quite sometime
.
looks like a switch upgrade/sevice.

glad you sorted it, i carry vaseline in my toollbox & people always ask what its for? i use it on all electrical connections even battery post lolNorthern Bongolow wrote:job sorted (i think)perros huevos wrote:possible earth problem on the passenger headlight and its dragging a earth from the drivers high beam filament if you was near bolton i could take a look
chris. turned out to be the above, there were several bad connections at the rear of both bulb connector blocks, most of them old damage that had been repaired but these repaires were not made weather proof so had eventually failed, the main problem once they were all working again was as above, a bad earth bodge connection on the passy side that was knocking the drivers side out
