Clonk
Hi. It's back again only slightly different. Got a clonking sound coming from the front of my 99 diesel bongo when braking or as I noticed this morning in slow moving traffic when lifting off the gas. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Re: Clonk
Hi. Sorry it's a 4wd. As well as the clonk when the brakes are applied I noticed when creeping in traffic a slight pressure on and off the gas will cause it to do the same.

Re: Clonk
Front drop links are a prime suspect.
Re: Clonk
I had the front drop links replaced in August in an attempt to cure this. Also have had all the brakes stripped and cleaned. Tried full lock in a carpark too with no noise. Quite frustrating!

Re: Clonk
bottom ball joint, wish bone rubbers, and the good old favorite the anti roll bar bushes or brackets.
jack all the front end up high, then get under with a big bar, it will show up better wth no weight on the suspension.
put axle stands under, but not taking the weight, but place them so they will support if jack fails.
usuall dont blame me disclaimers apply.

Hi
If it's accelerating / decelerating, most likely it's the drive-train...UJs / CVJs...you should feel this when on the jack, as Ady says...Second choice bottom balljoint or wishbone bushes....
Good luck...
Cheers

In the beginning there was nothing , then God said "Let there be Light".....There was still nothing , but ,by crikey, you could see it better.

Hi all. Finally got to the bottom of my mysterious clonk. Bongo has just spent a week at 321 away.(I live too far away to leave it for a day) Turns out that the wrong front brake pads had been fitted at some time. They were similar in size and shape but around 1mm out so when the brakes were applied they "jumped" and make the clonk noise. Thanks to Julian for diagnosing and sorting the problem. This was a problem two other garages couldnt solve. Happy days
