Which Exhaust Gasket for MIJ Stainless System

Post by The_Gordons » Mon Nov 28, 2011 4:13 pm

The exhaust on our Bonga is knackered so will be replaced at the end of this week with a stainless system from MIJ (insurance company notified). The exhaust has just arrived and is supplied without gaskets. Can anybody advise that has fitted an MIJ system themselves advise on the gaskets required?

I can pop in and ask MIJ tomorrow if they (should) supply them with the kits .. if that is any good to you ..??

If I can get them... I could post them up to you no trouble...

Just as a thought .. my Bongo has a stainless steel exhaust that was fitted in Japan ... I wonder if I will need to notify it to the Insurance company as a modification ..??

Mine didn't have gaskets either - I just used the old O ring

Hi,

i fitted one of their exhausts about 18 months ago. I also re-used the old ring. I was also advised to also use silicon both on that joint and the one joining the two parts of the exhaust. If the exhaust does not fit perfectly it may be best to assemble it in position and tighten up the joints and any support brackets by degrees leaving the final tightening of the joint at the exhaust manifiold till the end.

Good luck.

Cheers Guys.

Mike - I spoke with MIJ and they advised that they don't use gaskets, they just use high temperature sealant instead.

Yes I read that a month or so back when I was 'researching' having a Bongo .....

I remember thinking at the time cheeky Devil ... talking about Wonderful Walsall like that ..!!

Walsall is like any town ... there are many little Gems tucked away ... I was born and bought up in Walsall but I have never been into our new Art Gallery ... yet I love taking the Grandkids to the Leather museum .. the canal museum .. we spend hour cycling / walking around our Arboretum (where they used to have a mini Blackpool illuminations) .............................
