Our glow plug light has just started flashing when turning the ignition on and when the engine is running.
Starts OK and revs up but I haven't taken it out yet
I've read the diagnostic sheet and its very ambiguous about whether or not I need to short out the terminal before I can read the code.
Its a 51 plate diesel so as I read it I shouldn't need to short it out as that seems to refer to "up to Sept 99" but could anyone please confirm. I don't want to short it our if it's going to do some damage.
All the light is doing currently is flashing on and off without any sequence.
I don't know if its relevant but the battery was flat so I charged it a bit and then started it with the charger still connected.
I'll try all the easy fixes like fuse 1, fan connector near the handbrake etc tomorrow when it's light but failing that I need to read any codes that may come up.
How do you reset the ECU, can't seem to find out how anywhere?

Re: Glow plug light diagnostics question
To reset the ECU disconnect the battery and press and hold the Brakes for a few seconds the brake light will ensure that the supply is really down to zero volts.

Re: Glow plug light diagnostics question
Hi my 2000 diesel has had it flashing now for a while too. No sequence but loss of power. Getting it looked at by 321 on Sat. Would the disconnecting method sort mine i wonder?
Pourquoi Pas?
Re: Glow plug light diagnostics question
All sorted out .
Must have been a small leak on one of the vacuum pipes controlling the turbo. Fitted new pipe and now all OK, no power loss, no flashing lights.
Thanks all for the advice.
Tidmo, sounds like you have the same problem. Flashing light, loss of power=turbo not running. I'm sure 321 will sort it.

Re: Glow plug light diagnostics question
Thank you. I hope so, as this is the third time in 6 months ive had the glow plug light flashing. Each time with a different problem. Ownership is becoming a bit disheartening let alone expensive!
