Loss of power/smoke

Not a new topic, I know. Having read other posts, I immediately thought EGR pipe (mine is still connected and not blanked off). The full symptoms are as above, with the engine 'missing' when under load, even normal acceleration. It will also miss when at rest and revved over about 3000rpm. The missing is accompanied by blue smoke. Take the revs down and the load off, and it runs fine. My mechanic has had a cup of tea in one hand whilst scratching his head with the other all day. He has test driven Freda with the EGR blanked off and reconnected, but it makes no difference. He then suggested it might be an intermittent electrical fault on the actuator (whatever that is). Can Miss Fixit or any other wizards throw any light on the problem. Ford and Mazda have been no help at all.

Wish I could help. We are missing the likes of Kirsty/MissFixit and Alan/Dandywarhol these days, more's the pity. Maybe your mechanic could give Discount Trucks a ring as being all round and super-Bongo-savvy good guys, who might be able to give him a pointer or two?

Have you tried cleaning the banjo filter on top of the injector pump? I once had an issue with lack of power so I cleaned that & also replaced the fuel filter. Both are simple / cheap options which may just be all that is required.

Did your mechanic ever suggest having the injector pump and injectors serviced/calibrated.

Thanks for everyone's ideas/suggestions. Turned out to be a gate valve (or somesuch?) on the turbo which was stuck open (or maybe, closed) or something. Anyway, now goes like a train. B****y coal-fired bang-bang engines. It should be law that all engines should be petrol fuelled, with a minimum of 8 cylinders and 4 litres, arranges in a 'V'. Thanks again all.
