Converting 2wd to 4wd?

Post by KennethB » Sat Nov 12, 2011 10:06 am

Hi

Was thinking the other day about selling my beloved Bongo as it is only 2wd but I like it so much I don’t want to part with it, so is it possible to convert my 2wd Bongo to a 4wd?
Any help would be great :D

anything is possible

but new gearbox front axel and drive chain along with everything else would make it far too expensive an option

Have you considered the possible compromise of replacing the rear axle with a LSD one? About £150 or so should see you with a LSD axle. Reasonably straightforward to swap over.

A 2WD with LSD compares quite favourably to a 4WD without. Of course, it does depend on what you need the 4WD for. If you are heading off road etc then that's a different requirement to for example just keeping mobile in the snow etc.

If your 2WD already has a LSD, the forget all after "Have you...."
