what did you have "done" to the box? did i dream that it shouldn't come out of lock up over 60mph? it just doesnt quite seem right to me that it should be doing what it is , when it is?

To be honest its sounds spot on to me, your not accelerating in an auto car your accelerating in a 2+ ton van so its gonna kick down, Get a good auto electrician to check the TPS (throttle position sensor) its a 2 minuite job but once its checked and set correctly it gives you peice of mind that as long as the oil is good its changing gear when it should :wink:

hummm.....its not really a case of pushing hard enough to select , or need , kickdown. a simple lift off and re-application of the throttle at even the lightest throttle loading is enough to prompt the shift. is the function the sole responsibility of the tps? what is the purpose of the screw bodied single plunger switch that lives at the front of the fuel pump that is wired from the same plugs as the tps? i wondered wether this has a part to play? i do have a switched on local auto sparks though if i can't fathom this one with the collective brains' help!

It was a few years ago but they changed the solonoid pack
it never felt like a propper lock up as it felt abit "sloppy" cruising at say 3500 revs lift foot and it would drop to say 3000 while you coast with no real speed change then touch the throttle and it spikes to 3800 then "catches" and settles at 3500 again and is driving the car again.

I expect its still doing it today with the new owners and I cant say I have tried it on my new one.

I've experienced maybe 4 or 5 bongo's at speeds on or above 60 MPH... None of them hunted a gear or dropped out of lock up just from easing of the revs then re-applying revs... Summat don't sound right to me. :shock: Mine stays in lock up unless i ease off to 50ish MPH, then re-apply the revs quite a bit! :shock:

As suggested elsewhere, i think i'd be tempted to adjust the TPS just a fraction then re-test it.... It might be worth making a mark on the sensor, and housing as a reference point... Then "have a play" Nowt to lose really... And if it makes no difference it could always be set back to it's natural position. :wink:

it's marked from a previous play to smooth things out. will continue to tinker. still interested about the function of the plunger switch though!
