Not one I have heard of
do you have a tow bar and electrics fitted or reversing sensors or any other after market devices that would use the revers light feed?
have you tried leaving the bulb out?
if it does not blow with the blub out that is where to look though I am no sparky

Re: Fuse blowing when engaging reverse
I would second that advice. I had problems with my Jeep cherokee battery running flat for years. The Jeep garage that fitted a tow bar for me could find nothing wrong. Had to put up with the problem for years as lots of other big garages could not find the problem either. Over the past year I have been using a small local back street garage for work on my Jeep and my Bongo (except for the cooling issues). He is one of those rare mechanics who likes a challenge and went over my Jeep with a tooth and comb. Guess what, the tow bar electrics were causing all the problems.

From your two posts I assume you have had the Bongo for a couple of months ...
Has is done it from day one ... or is it something that as only just started to happen ..??
If it a new issue think to when it first started .. where any jobs / mods done at around the same time ..??

Which fuse are you blowing ? That might help identify the circuit with the problem...poppyhowse wrote:I have a 2004 Bongo 2ltr petrol Auto which keeps blowing fuses every time i put it into reverse! this means a dead short, as new to veh has anyone had this prob ie a known place to look for chafing or movement. Veh is same as bought no tow bar fitted has just started to happen, the fuse that blows is the one that covers auto box speedo rev counter temp gauge and petrol gauge. When fuse blows auto stuck in one gear rest of dials do not work ecu light comes up with check
Re: Fuse blowing when engaging reverse
Is it this fuse your referring to ?

If so have you checked the bulb itself, by removing it and inspecting it ?
Does it happen every time, you go into reverse if so does it happen immediately, or when / how long after selecting reverse ?
The feed from the reversing switch that powers that light also feeds the Corner Sensor system and the Radio, have you done any work to either of those recently ?
If you have the Corner sensors, does the display show the reversing sensors assuming of course that the fuse doesn't blow instantly ...?

Hi Geoff that is the fuse that blows everytime reverse is used, have not checked bulb don't think i have corner sensors and radio is not on when fuse blows.Nothing seem normal on these vehicles, are the reversing lights in the side clusters or in the door cant check to see if light working as i am on my own.

Re: Fuse blowing when engaging reverse
The reversing lights are still in the side clusters rather the the door panel on the Aero models. One tip to help check rear bulbs when you don't have an assistant with you is to reverse up to a wall and you should be able to see what lights up through the rear window. Other thought: do you have a separate rear foglight or has it had the conversion done by Imperial (and other suppliers) where the offside reversing bulb is fitted with a red filter and rewired to act as a foglight? It could be there is a fault in the foglight wiring such that it is shorted to the reversing light. Try switching on the foglight and then engaging reverse.
Re: Fuse blowing when engaging reverse
Many thanks Geoff i will pass this on to the sparks who is going to check it over for me i would try myself but it's chucking down at mo and i am a warm dry weather person.
Re: Fuse blowing when engaging reverse
You might need to know that the rear cluster lights slide out from the side they do not pull straight off the back! Undo the bolts then slide the cluster to the left/right to free them;

You've got a sparky out to check a bulb?
