diesel pull handle..

Post by chiefster1976 » Thu Oct 27, 2011 10:55 am

Hey guys... Went to pull the fuel cap lever and nothing happened! It sems the cable may have stretched or detacthed itself from a housing or something... Its not pulling the plunger in at all..
I traced the cable through the drivers side footwell then goes through i think insode the vehicle...
Ive looked under the rear wheel arch but no sign of it there.
How do i get to it? Im stuffed if the only way is through the interior because it has afull side conversion and i really dont want to strip out half the kitchen just to adjust/replace a cable...

Any ideas guys??

That's a well-timed reminder that I was going to explore making a special tool for opening the flap from the outside without damaging anything, since I have a full-side conversion too.

I think I can reach through one of my cupboards, push the insulation out of the way and get to the back of the flap release, but I'm not 100% sure.

Yeah its really hard With a full side conversion in. I managed get it open by placing a rag in the centre of the flap on the rear side and used a flat blade screwdriver to push /bend over the internal locking bracket... If you have no other option of course!!

I think the cable is stretched... If no one has changed one of these or if i carnt find out if it can be adjusted then ill have to look at fitting an external lock for the flap instead of using a cable at all....

job sorted!!yey... Pulled out the rear cup holder plastic housing and reached inside to see the cable had lifted up and away from the holding position..
pushed back into place, but the pull handle still wouldnt quite open the flap.. SO a quick adjustment to the tab that locks into the plunger worked..Hence bend the tag so the plunger just locates to lock in place..job done!!
I think on the next conversion i will be making sure the cable behind the side panel is secure and add something to make sure it never slips up and away from its housing...
Thanks for everyones replies... :P :P :P

So the "innards" of the rear of the fuel flap release can be accessed with a "reach through" with the rear cup holder popped out? That's handy to know if/when my cable stretches... Thanks! 8)
