Hey been reading the threads on loss of power - coil light kicking in. I have the same problem and have spent much of today reading this forum and running out to the Bongo trying different things. I have a new shape 2.5TDi 2WD with the dreaded Coil Light problem that kicks in occasionally and puts the van into a slow mode. It seems that this will drive like this for miles with no further problems but is very annoying and havn't discovered the cause yet. Tried the Vacuum Rod and have cleaned the solenoids and wiring etc. My wastegate solenoid (the one under the drivers seat to the rear) has code K5T 49093 B6AT 1904 which seems different to others - is this the correct part and should I try replacing this - as advided on other threads - dont want to replace with the same 'possibly wrong' part. In terms of the 'disconnect the battery' to reset - I ahve discovered that you can get an INSTANT and quick fix by removing the FIP fuse (Fuel Injection Pump) under the bonnet in the box of fuses at the front. Much quicker than hanging around for the engine to reset itself... I keep a small pair of pliers handy..

Old air valves do stick which cause the ECU to drop into safemode which turns the turbo off.

This has happened to me twice. The first time around I never did find out what the cause was, even though it was fixed. The second time around it was the air valve (vacuum solenoid) and having it replaced did fix the problem.

I've just had the dreaded 1228 error with loss of power on a hill.

Luckily I was on my way to Wheelquick (85 miles from home) who reset the "computer" and cleared the fault.
It has not returned on the journey home but I was very light with the right foot and kept the revs down.

Wheelquick did not know what the under lying problem was but did say that they have many people contacting them for advice with the same problem and fault code. They will not sell new shape diesels for this reason.

Does anyone have a definitive answer for this? Any garages that can fix it in Yorkshire?

As far as I know the easiest thing is to check all of the vacuum hoses for cracks or just replace the hoses.

If that doesn't work replace the air valve.

I've also herd of the problem being cause by a faulty wiring harness also.
