white dial/ bongo 2.0ltr

Ok, this topic seems to cover 2.5 diesels and 2.5V6 but there's is another version out there, the 2.0Ltr ECO engined..... so has anyone fitted a white dial kit to this model vehicle where the fuel guage is actually accurate? I ordered and fitted a kit but the fuel gauge white dial has a V6 flag on it but I fitted anyway has I believe the tank capacity is the same on all models (65.0Ltrs)? The issue is that when this guage shows empty and with a fill at the pumps, it only replenishes the tank 38-40 Ltrs... has anyone (2.0Ltr Bongo) fitted a white dial kit thats accurate?

dont think thats a problem with the dial is it

is it not the same layout as the old one?

if the needles not going to full it might be the earth..but thats usually nothing moves at all

or a mechanical problem with the sender

again it sounds similar to mine

if i fill it right up

the first 2/3 of the tanks gone in no time at all

the last third as shown by gauge lasts way longer

i think its just the way the sender is made

I have a theory...? Sender earth to tank, tank earth to chassis... http://lushprojects.com/bongopartsmk2/c ... mgno=.html

Could the weight of the fuel in a full tank be causing a little resistance in the grounding of the tank to chassis..? Ageing, corroded, under-sealed fixings & bolts??

Thanks all, yes Ive done all the earth mods including seperate earth from tank body to chassis, fitted new genuine mazda tank sender unit, from my calculations I suspect there's 4-5 gallons still in the tank when the guage is showing empty!........., thats why Im asking the question, has anyone got white dials fitted for a 2.0Ltr bongo that are accurate?

The actual senders are notoriously inaccurate and non-linear, given that they invariably turn the variation in height into a circular motion to drive a simple variable resistor.

Yes i think thats probalaly the case , you have'nt mentioned if yours has this issue?

The largest amount we have ever put in is 52.28 litres, the needle was below empty at that point, but I don't see that as a problem - its just an indicator not to go on a long run!

The original gauge and markings are the same (we have the white faceplates as well).

Many thanks, Im going to run the vehicle till it 'coughs and splutters' carry a gallon of fuel in a jerry can, note where the needle is on the white gauge... take out the instrument cluster remove the white dial carefully remove the red segment on the dial and create a new red line where the needle rests at empty..... god, all this work should have bought motorhome

If you start cutting into the material you will destroy the luminescence properties, the back of the material is a conductor as well as the front !

Of course, I know that............. nail polish remover to remove red paint, clean the area with alcohol or PCB cleaner using cotton swab, apply new 'empty' indication line with red nail polish with artist's ultra fine brush........ should be no need for cutting anything.
