Steering wandering. WHY

Post by nephro » Sun Oct 09, 2011 2:39 pm

My 2005 Friendee has started to wander all over the road lately, I have not added or altered anything.

What could it be ?

Check your tyre pressures first. If that doesn't help, it could be many things, but probably worn steering joints or tracking.

Are the wheel nuts tight, are the tyres wearing unevenly ? get it into a garage asap and get then to check the components, incidently i seem to remember a post somewhere about the steering column joint working loose somewhere near where the colum goes through the floor, not sure if its on top of the floor or underneath, get it sorted asap

good one mate, the steering universal joint was seizing up, this required more powersteering effort to turn the thing, but couldnt be felt on the steering wheel. this was making the rack jerk when correction was applied to the steering wheel if i remember right.

had similar on a wagon at work when the front wheel swivel was seizing up, check your bottom ball joint rubbers for cracks/splits.
jack it up then move the steering from below without the engine running.
