Servicing - what to buy?

Post by Printer » Fri Sep 23, 2011 2:57 pm

Hi all

Just a quick question:

I am going to be buying a few bits and pieces from the Bongo Shop here like glow plugs, mason alarm, thermostat and maybe some other things for the coolant system. As I live in Ireland it is not easy to find a Bongo Friendly garage and I will probably ask a mechanic friend of mine to do the servicing on it.

I am no techie... so can you recommend what things I should buy for a regular service (it was last done over 10,000km ago and even then Im not sure it was the best service so it is probably more like 15,000-20,000km ago) so that I have them in Ireland for future services etc.

The reason I ask is that it costs me to get them shipped over from the UK so I may as well order a few things and get them all shipped at once.

Are there any particular things I will be changing regularly so would need to have in stock as I plan on holding on to my Bongo here for at least 2-3 years and using it regularly.

One of the most important things you can do is to check the radiator is still OK - Your mechanic will be able to flow test it. And of course, check the strength of the coolant.
Allans Garage retired. Try PGS (Plymouth Garage Services) or Mayflower Auto Services Plymouth

Make sure the pipe over the starter motor is protected, get a piece of hosepipe split it and fit on the pipe that goes over the starter motor, and then tie up so it does not touch the starter motor.
It sometimes rubs on the starter motor and it then weakens the pipe.
Lost without my Bongo.

Hi Printer,

Might be worthwhile checking the compatable database,a lot of the service items are compatable with other vehicles, and should be widely available in Ireland.

Cheers.
