CV Joint Seperation??

Post by ADAMD » Tue Sep 20, 2011 2:08 pm

Hi I am stuck again at this point.

Image

I cant see how the driveshaft comes apart from cv joint, no visible clips etc.

I can slide the boot fon from the other end, but I would like to know how they are meant to work.

Many thanks as always.

It's held in place by a spring clip that sits in a slot in the shaft and expands out into a slot on the inside of the joint. Hold the shaft and hit the joint with a moderate sized hyde/nylon faced hammer and it will come. If it doesn't, hit it harder!

Yes, and keep your feet out of the way when it drops off. It hurts, a lot.

You might need a new clip as well as they sometimes get mangled when taking the CV off.

if youre holding the shaft by hand place the bottom end on a block off wood, it will stop the whole lot sliding through you no doubt greasy hand and avoids damaging the spline, they do need a good wack normally.
