oil smell

Post by koxxwasp » Wed Oct 25, 2006 7:14 pm

Every now and again when my buz is warm and stood still in traffic i can smell burning oil, not as in an engine problem but more as if you had pored oil onto a hot and i mean really hot bit of metal.
It,s not all the time and it is not leaking and it is not over filled with oil. :?
she runs as sweet as a nut.
So what can it be please. :?

Right I am not being funny but is it burning oil you smell or the musty warm sort of smell when the heater is put on, I have tried a few bongos and this smell is present in all of em, sort of warm heater water smell, don't know if anyone else knows what I mean but does it coincide with the heater being on. If not don't know.

Oil Smell

Post by pyroman » Wed Oct 25, 2006 11:43 pm

Hi,

Have you had the oil changed recently?

I had the same symptoms and discovered that the dozy mechanic had put in too much engine oil and the engine was weeping oil from the head gasket, when it was drained, we dicovered that it had been over filled by 1.7 litres!!!

I only hope there has not been any permanant damage,

Kal

Hi koxxwasp - my feeling is that this is probably not a serious problem. You're not alone - I get this too, particularly after an oil change. So do others by the looks of it - see this thread here:

Note my own post about half way down - particularly my closing paragraph.

My advice is don't worry.
