Does anyone know where I can buy chrome side steps / rails that fit a facelift bongo?

This thread may help - http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... =side+step - pretty sure the fittings will be the same whether it's old shape, facelift or new shape.
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

If i was going to have side steps i would have the ones from the ranger, i'm sure i have seen a post from BDC with a piccy of them on may be worth a search and more available than the bongo ones!

i reckon a bongo with a slightly rodded look could really work. either white over powder blue paint , cream wide steels with chrome caps & white-walls , or , satin black , red wide steels with caps & white walls. 1950's or 2010's , who cares!? different is cool & cool is different.

Hi Nigel, where did you get yours from? Sorry to sound dense, but surely not all makes of side rails will fit? Do they have to be modded? I have a 2001 tin top?

Hi , bought mine s/h on fleabay. Very similar ones available on http://www.strona.com site or on link i posted earlier.
You're absolutely right most need modding but it's not so daunting as you think.

The bongo has a chassis outrigger [ part of chassis at right angle to sills ] at the rear just before the front of rear wheel arch which is ideal for securing at rear. At front you can fit a bracket up through the step [ remove plastic trim to reveal metal step plate ].

Any welder/fabricator will make you a set of brackets for not much money. On the stronas the rear bracket fitted ok and i made a bracket for front steps using the drop bars from a caravan anti snake fitting , basically a plate with holes in at various heights.

I paid around £100 for mine s/h but the ranger or nissan xtrail ones are a good match and you may pay between £145 - £200 new. Maybe add £20 or £30 for brackets if you can't do your own.
Keep your eye on any on fleabay that look ok and you'll pick up a bargain. As long as length matches bongo [ ish ] any bracket can be made.

if you need any further help pm me your tel. number and i will be happy to talk it through with you.
