Is it possible to retain the plastic base plates when upgrading the front door speakers ?

Re: Replacing door speakers ?
If you mean the grill over the front of the speakers, this is moulded onto the door cards.
Lost without my Bongo.

No dave the plastic ring under the door panel that the speaker is mounted into to stop it fouling the window.
Can anyone who's upgraded there door speakers advise me of what size i need to retain all other factory fitments, door trims mounting rings etc ?
Thanx, Pete.

Re: Replacing door speakers ?
Hi I used some FLI FI5 130mm 180w Coaxial Three Way Car Door Speakers,They come with leads and fit in space where the old speakers lived.
230520218413 was the EBAY item number.Easy to fit and sound ok.I also fitted a 12" powered sub in the space behind last row of seats, that sorts the lack of bass out.
If you need any more info pm me.Rick

Thanks for that rick did the 130's fit straight in the plastic surrounds ? i tried some 17cm speakers in halfrauds and they were to big, mr halfraud looked on his info screen and i recomends 16cm speakers as an upgrade but they only stock 17's and 13's, 13's were to small, all 16cm speakers on e-bay say 16cm or 6" well 6" is 16.5 cm

I'm not looking to win any soundoffs i just want a nice decent sound, i also need to put some speakers in the rear as there isn't any in there at the mo

this is what i did.

you do need to really run these on an amp not the head unit.

Bongo now work later !!!

Re: Replacing door speakers ?
With help using some computer aided design software and rapid prototyping technologies at work, I made some custom plastic houses that allowed me to fit 17cm speakers, just! They have sufficient bass oomph - a lot better than 13cm speakers I trialled.
I could re-make the mountings, but they'd cost a small fortune!

PNC thats a great lill mod there but i don't have any plans to run an amp its just upgrading the 16 year old factory parts to get a decent sound.

Re: Replacing door speakers ?
I upgraded the front ones and retained the plastic mounts, just drilled some new mounting holes and in they went not sure what kind they were but they were excatly the same size, I want better ones now though.
