Hi Bongo brethren....
Im new to this as ive only owned a bongo for a week.....and things are not going to well....!
Problems
When its driven its burning fuel at an alarming rate coupled with smokey emissions coming out of the back which I am guessing is unburnt fuel
I have replaced the air filter and that has made a small improvement but there is still a problem there. A garage I took it to said I had a slightly leaky EGR valve but that it could also be a turbo problem.
any ideas anyone?

I think they all burn fuel at an alarming rate
EGR can be blanked easily - there are loads of threads on here about it. If you google Allans Vehicle Services, they sell plates specifically for the bongo. I did mine and was happy with the result. Hopefully that will solve all your troubles.
Good luck!

It's worth sticking a rough area location on your signature. Local people may be happy to help!

Re: exhaust very smokey and going through a lot of diesal...
Do you have 2 x battries under the bonnet.......if so look for a switch in the cab with what looks like a engine symbol on it.....this operates a "valve" in the exaust to recirculate exaust gases in extreamly cold "north Japan".
Make sure this is off and never touch it again.....But it is possible the "valve" has jammed.....this would mean removing it..(simple) look under the passenger side at the side door...you will see a boxey thing in the exaust....that's the baby..
