I would not go for using a leisure battery for every day starting. They are designed more for providing steady power for long periods rather than big chunks very quickly. Boats get away with using LBs for starting because they don't start that often, compared top a car. Using an LB for starting every day will almost certainly reduce it's working life. Starter batteries are designed to give big currents for short periods and recover quickly from that, and if disharged like an LB will not last that long.

The first need is for a decent starting battery, there are plenty around so that will not be that difficult.

If you need the power when the engine is not running then fit an LB as well but choose a proper one.

There are some decent warranties around these days in terms of time but remember you will have to use the battery are it was intended to claim and be able to prove that. In reality I would not rely on a battery warranty that much even though my choice of LBs for our boat was helped along by the manufacturers warranty.

LBs are a compromise between real deep dishcharge batteries and starting batteries but in reality their starting capacity is limited as they cannot deliver the CCA outputs that an equivalent size starting battery can.
Agree with all those comments but speak as I find! The manufacturer does state these are suitable for both starting and leisure use. Boats are typically used intermittently with days or weeks between use. Jaws takes to the road most days.

Used throughout last winter with first turn starting even at 12C below overnight, a quick trip to walk the dogs and start again to go to work.

As far as I can see the warranty stands.
Live Bongo and prosper.

Good to come across someone who's using an Elecsol for starting. I know what the manufacturer says, but "dual purpose" could just be marketing speak!

I've got one as a leisure battery and I'm pretty impressed with it so when the time comes to replace the starter battery I know I can go with something I already rely on.

For Starter batteries I always use a local Trade Counter....always have what I want in stock even a choice of Branded or budget types .....some budget ones even have 2/3 yr guarantees.....
Bongo's in Japan are fitted with a maximum of 64Ah starter battery.... so an 068 (typically 70Ah) or a 249 (typically 95Ah) are plenty of oomph to start your Bongo. And with Both batteries having Gtee's the same....yer pays yer money...... the 068 has no worries fitting in the tray, some say the 249 is a tight fit ..... I usually fit Yuasa Professional 030 ( #-o another number) but as I say...... yer pays yer money....
