Front Head Lights - Easy to remove glass/ plastic?

Post by flossie » Sun Sep 11, 2011 8:58 pm

I have swapped the lamps for the super duper bright blue ones but this highlights the fact that my van came with a nice new head lamp and a yellowing original. I've tried t cut and CIF and various other products but no good. So is it possible to remove the glass to clean inside it , idlf so is it easy and how do u do it and secondly assuming it canbe removed can i buy new glass to go in it I stead and who might stock this please ?

Don't think its possible to remove, its very well glued and more likely to break than come apart, (Ive tried) and it started to splinter.
What year is your bongo, you could easily get second hand headlamp units quite cheaply.

Failing the headlight swap... It's worth popping into a bodyshop and slipping the guy a fiver to stick the polishing mop over it with a medium grit farecla, then a fine grade, then a glaze to remove the swirls... It'll pay for his dinner for ten minutes nibbing!

Make sure he keeps the mophead moving though with plenty of water sprayed on too...the lenses are plastic.

Berkshire? Ok a tenner.... :D New shape headlights are a bit harder to come by than older shape lights... But they do respond to a damn good mopping better than the old shape lights as the outer lens is completely smooth... I'm pretty certain the yellowing will be due to the yellow film they spray onto the lights in Japan... It will come off, it just depends how many coats they sprayed on :D Please don't be tempted to put any elbow grease saving fluids on the light such as thinners, acetate etc

I've had some very good success with a set of new shape (zenon) headlights in the past (cabte's?) it was a fingertip, hard, slog with proper t-cut (not the cheapo stuff from Tesco's) [-X
