Thanks Dandy - pretty sure it's not slipping belts - they are only about one year old and are deffo the right ones. Did you listen to the youtube video? That's the noise which doesn't sound like a belt (to me anyway).

Hoping Debee has the answer...

Hey Dandy, Having thought about it some more, when I got home today I had a look at the Exhaust Manifold - surprise surprise stud no 1 is snapped...

Can't really seee much in the way of soot and mine only screeches when first started then it is quiet. Is that how they tend to behave when that stud goes, and will this get progresivley worse if I don't address it? What is weird though is the sound is exactly as per the you tube video above, but that is attributed to the inlet manifold, and was fixed with a new inlet manifold gasket.

I shouldn'y moan - apart from servicing and glow plugs this is the only thing to go wrong on my Bongo in 2 years and 30,000 miles (touches wood)...

What do you think then - am I actually describing a broken manifold stud?

Cheers,

Dan

Yep, if it's missing then it'll blow until the manifold expands and seals it.

I had to get another manifold on mine because it was so warped and the replacement (used) one was also warped. I ended up dismantling an old manifold gasket and doubling up the gaskets at the distorted end - a bit Heath Robinson but it worked after replacing the broken stud.

i would repair the no 1 stud fairly soon imo, ive seen one last week that maybe took the alternator out, espcaping heat got into the cooling vents at the rear end of the alternator.
