Rear arches
I have been recomended this site for some help. from the quick look I've had the rear arches seem to be a problem on these things. I'm in the process of doing some body work on my partners bongo and the rear passenger side inner and outer arch is totaly shot, from the phone calls I have made I understand a 2000/6 transit one will fit the outer but will I be able to use the inner one aswell? Any help you guy's and girls could give me would be very greatfully recieved.
Re: Rear arches
do a search for arches, there is loads of info on here. It would appear that Transit and Sprinter ones fit but both need adjusting.
I am mine done in a couple of weeks, the guy I am going to make his own.

Re: Rear arches
Welcome aboard, panels are available and several body shops are well used to doing the job.
If you let us know roughly where you are local help will be forthcoming.
Transit panels is what I seem to remember.

Re: Rear arches
I'm having my arches (both inner and outer) done at the moment, with the outer Transit panels and patching for the inners. If I ever get the Bongo back (been with them a month now!) I'll post pics. The garage, although a Bongo specialist, had never done the rear arches before and had real problems getting the Transit arches to fit the inners. So I don't know if the Transit inner arches will fit, but it may well be worth a try as it sounds like they couldn't make the job much harder.
You may also want to check out stuc's posts regarding using Sprinter arches.

Re: Rear arches
I seem to remember someone saying the Merc Vito arches were a better fit than Transit, but I've searched for the thread and can't find it.

Re: Rear arches
I have to get my arches done, too. Been quoted £800 for the job if I supply the panels. How does that price compare with folk who've had it done elsewhere?
On the FAQ part of this website there are details of suppliers of the Transit panels, copied below. Are these part numbers just the outer arches?
Imperial Car Parts. Part numbers A4481R & A4481L. Tel 01302 304000.

Re: Rear arches
Well got myself a merc sprinter arch, the outer was not too hard to figure out but it took quite a bit of head scratching to do the inner. I ended up making one out of the leftover bit, just a case of trimming and fetteling a little at a time. Quite suprised myself on how well it turned out
, although I've worked with metal for over 20 years it's a bit different to the 3 tonne lumps I normaly work with
.

Re: Rear arches
Hi any chance of any pics, as i think i am the only other to use the merc ones. Interesting to see, and how hard did you find it to do. Did you have to add a little piece into the middle to make the bumper meet the arch?Laine wrote:Well got myself a merc sprinter arch, the outer was not too hard to figure out but it took quite a bit of head scratching to do the inner. Re: Rear arches
stuc my guy is going to have a go with the the merc ones just waiting for them to come in so will let you know when its done.
Re: Rear arches
Great cant wait to see it. Although i must state i will not be held responsible for any mishaps caused during repairs.
I am sure it will be good, the shape is much better as it still looks like the front wing shape.
Tell your guy if he has any queries to email me and i will give any info if needed. How we did it etc.
PM sent.

Not sure about the pics as my camera/phone is playing silly buggers at the moment but will try.
The outer arch was no problem really, it was making the inner from scratch that bubbled my head for a while
, but yes i did have to add a little piece in the middle.
By the way not too far from you I'm in Darlingtonand the van/girlfriend lives in Brandon.

Hi there should be plenty photos on this link,

We should try to arrange a local meet to compare arches.

Re: Rear arches
Check oot me arches!
I didn't realise how bad mine were until I removed the plastic trim covering the rear wheelarches and noticed there was nothing there!

Took it to a very friendly bodyshop in Twickenham which I'd never used before. They did it for the price quoted (£800 for both inner and outer) and completed it on time, in just three days.

Me Bongo (which passed 250000km this weekend) is free to fight another day! The panels are the Transit ones, and the plastic trim won't fit now! PM me if you'd like the trim for yours.
