Rev counter dancing all over the place

Post by flyfisher » Thu Jul 28, 2011 8:10 pm

Over last few weeks my bongo (2.4 diesel) rev counter has been going nut’s one minute its fine and then starts dancing all over the place and then will settle back down

Any one know what the cause is and any advice, is it something that should concern me ?

I ran this past Ian who had not heard of the fault before!

Thanks (new forum member but long term club member)

Welcome to the forum :D
I assume you mean 2.5l turbo diesel, there is no 2.4  Sounds like it could be the the sensor, thread here that should help - http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... =3&t=24171
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

could be worth checking the speedo correction chip, and that the alternator is doing what it should be too.

The alternator output should be somewhere between 13.8v - 14.6v, if it's less than that, it may be your issue, may be accompanied by sediment & charge light glowing, may not though
