Core plugs

Post by apssrf » Tue Jul 26, 2011 6:43 pm

Just had a service and the guy showed me that one of the core plugs to the cylinder head was leaking. I have booked bongo back in and said I would buy the core plug off the internet. However, I can't find them listed anywhere - are they called something different? Bongobits website is down (anyone have the phone number please?) and JAS website says they are not trading at the moment! I'm having a bad day! Any advice appreciated.

Hi apssrf,

Try your local Mazda/Ford dealer or a motor factor. You will have to measure the old plug if you go to a factor, but Mazda should be able to supply one from data base.

The Mazda part number Might be 99306-2000 depending on what part of the head its fitted.

Good luck.

is it just leaking/loose or has it corroded.
if its just leaking get a socket of the correct/max size that fits into it,not on the edge, and gently tap it in,dont go mad though they are quite soft.they are into a slightly tapered hole that has a lip on the inside to seat against.
pm member widdowson2008. i fitted a new one for him after he ordered 2 just incase.
is yours the 2.5 diesel.
if your stuck i have some second hand ones fitted to a head that can be reused.
do a search on here for coreplugs and the thread should pop up.

It's not the hole that is tapered Ady - the hole has a parallel bore.
It's the core plug itself that has the taper. This is so that when you tap the plug into the hole, the sides 'spring in' to take the form of the hole, hence forming the seal.

Got new plugs from Bongobits - Excellent service (next day)
If you still need it, I think this is their address and telephone number

Unit 202-204, Faraday Mill Business Park, Faraday Rd

widdowson2008 has posted pictures of the Bongo 2.5td cylinder head showing locations of all core plugs.

A quick sketch or using the photo's as identification will help locate the correct part number for the right plug at a Mazda/Ford dealer parts dept.
Well done Steve, pictures always speak a 1000 words. =D>

Many thanks everyone for your help. Mazda are 'looking' into it. Bongobits don't have any in stock but are ordering some. Only prob is we go on hol on Tue - I don't suppose anyone on here has a spare new one they want to sell to me do they?

Th eone we need is when you lift the seat up, is directly in front of you on the side of the middle column thing (sorry for not being very technical with description!)

You need to be more specific about which one you need.
If it is on the head, then it will be one of these. There are only 5 to choose from.
If it IS one of these, then they are all the same anyway.

Near side (passenger side)

or these
Offside - (drivers side)

just a thought guys and girls, i saw a head last week with no core plugs fitted, i am thinking that all the heads may not be the same,or same size plugs.
has the head you have fitted got WL01 or WL casted into the head (gen mazda head), in large letters about 1 inch high, or is it an aftermarket/replacement one.
