horn stopped working

Post by beasd mr Friendee » Tue Jul 05, 2011 6:16 pm

Hi all, we have a 1999 AFT and the horn just stopped working ( just in time for the mot! brilliant!) :(

I have found the fact sheet in the members area for the fuses so will check this in a moment but in case this soesn't solve all my problems does any one know where the horn is sited under the bonnet.

Also has anyone ever dismantled the steering wheel to fix a horn- i'm a little nervous of this because of the air bag-don't want to break it!!! #-o but any info welcome.

cheers

Before tackling the wheel end... (If the fuse is OK.)

The horn is normally situated behind the bumper... Could be a bad connection to the horn.. Or bad earth?? Or the relay may be shot??!!

Mine was earthed under the drivers headlight behind the bumper...
Cheaper by comparison to a race horse...

Agree with Jaylee - look for a bad connection (earth?) at the horn end.

Same happened to mine last year. From memory, mine was simply a wire that appeared to be connected to a terminal, but in fact the wire was corroded and all that was stopping it falling off was the wire insulation.

The bongo horn is quite exposed to the elements despite it seeming out of sight... once located (as Jaylee says, behind the front bumper off side as you sit in the bongo) Simply remove and replace the connectors a few times, that scraping motion of the connectors cleans them up enough to get the horn working again 9 times out of 10. Beep, beep!
