Mis-firing V6

Please help all you bongoliers out there, right the problem is this. I recently got my 2.5 auto 1999, new shape, Bongo converted to LPG, running great for nearly two months when coming home after a day out, I lost all power, but got home slower than normal. Now the problem is, I have changed the Plugs, Rotor Arm, Distributor Cap and just done the HT leads tonight, running great on petrol but when the gas kicks in it starts to mis-fire, then i try to switch it back to petrol again and now the petrol side of it is mis-firing, PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME this is doing my head in

Did you replace all the parts with Mazda origanal ones....I had exactly the same problem and fitted a set of aftermarket leads (£80) they were useless..

My problem in the end turned out to be the rota arm.

Have you checked out the coil pack ??

Hi Haydn thanks for getting back, i put it in a garage and they got the bits, the leads i got were from performance leads .co.uk , £89. fitted them last night at work ran great on petrol but when turned to gas mis-firing even when i put it back on petrol, Went out this morning started prefect but she was on petrol, in going to take it back to the gas people this morning on petrol then turn it to gas so they can then hear how it starts to mis-fire, How do i get the coil pack checked? I borrowed a coil off another Bongo and checked them out by swapping.

Your problem will almost certainly be Ignition related.....LPG requires the system to be 100%....Petrol you can get away with 90% (so to speak)

I spent hours sorting mine......swapped everything but a decent rota arm sorted it.....the "cheap" (£80) leads were useless......I gave the origanals a really good clean (one at a time)

Did you use platinum plugs ???? I think they are the ones that don't like LPG ??
(might be wrong about that but check it out)

I rhink i will go and see Allan at allans Vehicles Services, he does the Bongos around Plymouth and ask him to check out the coil pack, Thanks Haydn, will also check out plugs

I had similar after my gas conversion... esp at junctions - turns out it was a switch right down in the engine to do with temperature regulation. If you rule everything else out let me know and ill check with Fred at Discount Trucks what the part was called.

Hi there,

The problem on your car Liz was the temperature sender, it tells the ECU how hot the coolant is. Worth checking along with all the other suggestions.

Has the car ever run well on LPG? Check also the pipes to the vaporiser, are they hot or is there an airlock. You need plenty of heat to vaporise the lpg liquid into gas.

Check the plugs as well, as has been said the HT side needs to be in perfect working order.

as you can see i got the problem solved, 2nd (hotter running) set of plugs, New Rotor Arm, New Distributor Cap & a New set of HT leads. after all the the first garage that had ScoBo 2 had put 2 of the HT leads on the wrong plugs, basic stuff eh? but she is running like a dream now. but what i've noticed now is that it goes on to gas a lot quicker, which is a good thing. Cheaper. A longer trip than normal tomorrow Plymouth to Bristol Airport so will let you know how ScoBo2 performs.

Wish i knew what all of the above was as mine is doing the exact same thing since i have had a LPG conversion. They have done a diagnostics test and say they can find no fault, i am planning a full service but after reading this post i may as well print it off and hand it over to our local bongo garage to deal with......

Had my beloved serviced today - no clues as to my ongoing prob, though they did pick up on a damaged HT lead and advised I buy a complete set.
I had a look in our very stylish club shop

(thats got to be worth another 10%) and in there it says a set of left hand leads and a set of right hand leads.
If I am buying a complete set do i have to buy a set of lefts and a set of rights, or am I barking completely up the wrong tree and I only need one set ????

I am so confused it hurts !!

The left hand leads fit on the left side of the engine, The right leads, on the right side. They are different lengths. A complete set would be both sets.
