Tried to use the air con yesterday for the first time on my new bongo. Hadnt used it up to now trying to save on fuel. Tried it on economy and then on the proper aircon which should get really cold but there was no difference between the two and I had the temperature set to the coldest.
I phoned Mike up at Wheelquick and he said it sounds like it needs re gassing and there is a place in wigan. Shame we arent going to the bongo bash as they do it there.
Does anyone know the name of this place or anywhere else nearer to Bury?
How much does it cost?
Can see going through the threads, not to use Kwik fit..

Have a look online or in Yellow Pages and try to find an air conditioning specialist and then print out and take the aircon fact sheet (from the members area of the site) with you to give them some details of the system if they haven't worked on a Bongo before. I did this in Worcester and they visually checked out the whole system and ran it and measured temperatures etc then said it doesn't need re-gassing and didn't charge me a penny. What they actually said was that I may gain an improvement of a couple of degrees but it wasn't worth doing it for that. Although people say that systems can lose anywhere between 10 and 20% of their refrigerant every year. It seems that some systems lose hardly any, and mine seems to be one of them.

Halfords do a do it yourself regassing kit but have no idea if it is suitable for the Bongo. Might be worth an enquiry.

Personally I would take it to a garage that does a lot of air con work....ask them to take the gas out and they should be able to tell you the weight that they remove....if it's less than 950gm get them to recharge it with 950gm and put the oil in (14ml of pag 46 oil )and check for leaks.....they must then test it at the front and back units....that job should cost no more than £70

Why not give Adrian in Bury a ring 0161-763-3003 and ask if he has someone he uses. He's a great guy (for all your Bongo service and repair needs) and usually can spare a moment for a question like this (I ought to phone him likewise myself - my aircon is working fine but its not been topped up for nearly 5yrs so my guess is it could be got to work even better).

Thanks everyone. I will give Adrian a ring, Mike. He's only about 3 miles away. How convenient is that especially when I'd like a towbar fitting!

I had mine done here in the Scottish Borders last week. Cost me £54.00 for the complete treatment, check for leaks, evapo fresh bacteria killing treatment to get rid of the stale musty smell then recyled gas + new gas mixed with pag oil put back in again. my Bongo now feels like Siberia inside with the heating off and the fans on full. Needless to say I used a small country garage with the right equipment rather than Kwik Fit in the local town.

i wouldnt get to hung up with the economy button, the guy at the bash said it was just a sales hype thing, and apparently is a useless gimick.(cannot remember exactly what he said).
give ian at bongo towers a shout for the details of the aircon man who was at the bash,he really does understand the system of the bongo, and does a superb job.
he is a mobile service, and could meet you somewhere.
top bloke who does it the old way,not by the figures, the figures quoted above are a starting point, but the final tweeks needed to make the system work really well are down to the experience of the filler.
