Electric window driving me mad!!!!

Post by Ramsey » Wed Oct 11, 2006 10:59 pm

Please can anyone help. My drivers side electric window has turned into arwrights till (open all hours). It has a mind of its own. It works and then stops working. There is now pattern i.e.open doors (cracked cable) etc it just doesnt when it wants to and when its most inconvienent to me! Need to pay for parking, speak to a friend, it wont open. Its raining or the kid is asleep in the back, it wont close!

I thought it was the switch but now Im not sure. I can hear the lilttle realy in the door switch actuate so I think that bit is fine. I have checked the contacts and they seem fine.

Please, please, please someone help........ I will forever be in your favor.

Cheers

Will I see the break? Is it the plastic/rubber cover you can see when you open the door? It just weird its intermittent and can work one moment and then even though I havent opened or closed the door it stops working.

Start with the switch as it should be very easy to get to to check - you dont really wanna take the door apart then find the switch is the problem

If you do on the back of the switch there are two "output" wires to the motor in the door, and the switch sends + & - up them as and when each side of the switch is pressed. You may have a wire half hanging off the switch.

Its not a power issue as the other door is fine and all on the same circuit.

Failing that the next thing to check would be the connections to the motor in the door, but that involves stripping the trim off the door.

Let me know how you get on!

with door open you can see plastic cover coming out of door along hinge and then goes into "A" post, peel insulation tape off, plastic coating has a split down it ,pull off carefully, you can now see wires, chaffing ,fractures and breaks should be visible, shouldnt take more than 10 minutes to see if this is problem which is VERY VERY common on bongo!!!!

Ramsey

I had same problem as you. It turned out that the switch was duff and the wiring was fine. If you live near me we can test my theory simply by swapping switches. PM me if you still have problems.

if that is a possible theory, swap left and right switches??

But make sure you make a not of what goes where on the back of the switch before you take the wiring off!!

Had the same problem myself , I cured it by taking the switch off the door and cleaning it out electrical solvent spray. It has worked perfectely since , hope this helps.
