How much were the bumpstops via Mazda Mike? (onb4c)

Not as cheap as I'd hoped. I phoned Mazda this morning at was quoted £27.39+VAT each. The ebay vendor (autojapspares) has replied saying

...but at least we now know they can be got. I might treat myself to one. Maybe they can be got cheaper (if I looked for more suppliers and asked them) but I suspect it wo't be much cheaper.

If I could find a source of hard rubber block, I could be tempted to fashion my own. You could fretsaw and sand the profile, and maybe by heating the baseplate up, it could be used to make the indentation in the base of the rubber block (a smelly operation though I'll warrant )

I think for my applications, a second hand pair of hollow rubber truck "body buffers" would be quite a bit cheaper... I suppose i could start trawling commercial vehicle dismantlers for a quote on a pair.

I'd be interested in any idea you come up with. £40 a pop (posted) is a lot for a stupid bit of rubber

If you dont want to knacker your shock absorbers/dampers,you should not run without bump stops.Doing so could cause the shock absorbers/dampers to bottom out.

I've banged mine once or twice, but I assumed it was the axle banging on the chassis - was I wrong?

i was a bit wary , hence i doubled up with mechanical fixings too.it was either araldite or gripfill (my usual first choice it has to be said!)
just a thought for a lowered bongo , howsabout polyurathene bumpstops? normally a mod for landrovers etc but could be adapted to suit.

A nice thought, i'd considered it... but ruled out polyurathane as being less compliant (if solid) Now a hollow, yet strong, poly bump stop with no backing plate might do the job.

there are specific poly bumpstops on the market , so not a case of "making something up".may come in a bit cheaper than standard & should last indefinately. if you wanted to really over-do it you can also get hydraulic bumpstops too.....bit ott on a bongo though , unless someone builds one for comp safari's!!!
