Which leisure battery?

I know this is probably a big question a bit like asking which tyres on a motorcycle forum (I'm also a biker) but which leisure battery would you recommend?

We currently have a 75AHr which appears to be failing (the fridge gives up the ghost after about a day and a half) and I've measured the available space at 340 x 180 x 220mm maximum (l x w x h) and want to put in the biggest I can get into the space.

Which one should I get?

Well the simple answer is one that fits the tray and has largest AmpHr capacity.
The only method I have found it to search thru the L/B at a site like http://www.tayna.co.uk/ select Leisure Batteries and then select each make in turn and see what fits.

I'd also suggest that it might be working to near its spec if it is 75amps and goes for a day and a half running your fridge.

Thanks for that. I thought that may be the case but wasn't sure as I know that current draw from a fridge is quite variable. The manual says the fridge is 45W (average) so drawing 3.75A it wouldn't even last a day and a half. I think a bigger battery is in order.

Why not? Its about (1) max size you might fit in and (2) what might be the best make of battery.

The spec's I've seen mean the average current when drawing current, you also need to take into account the percentage time it is on, typically 10-40% as the thermostat comes in and out. An 85 AmpHr battery will run a Vitro 41 Litre fridge for about 3.5 days by my experience.

I've got a Numax 113Ah L/B and a Vitrifrigo C42L fridge. On the 4th day of use at music festivals (in and out of the fridge a lot for beer! ), and re-charging mobiles overnight the battery dips below the fridge's cut-off voltage (about 11.3v IIRC). Run the engine for around 20 mins and it's fine right through to the next morning.

I think we have the same fridge actually Dave couldn't remember the number but knew it was around 41 but yes its a C42L. The extra 1/2 day with the added capacity makes sense as well.

It is advisable not to run your leisure battery below 50% capacity if you wish to get the best life out of it what ever capacity it has.

At the end of the day the capacity you can fit in the space will be determined by your pocket, batteries which have a greater power density tend to be more expensive.

On another post someone said that Banner energy bull batterys did best in recent tests. Giving better than the rated Ah.
