What's the recommended lubricant for stopping the dinosaur-like groans when the top raises? I was just going to use WD40 but is there something more effective/permanent?

We regularly lubricate ours, many use white lithium grease, see THIS LINK for ideas.

Also lubricate both sides of the bottom runners on both sides of the van.

But don't do what someone attempted in the London Marathon yesterday, which was to lubricate the bottoms of the runners on either side of the van. That only produced a lot of groaning noises
Re: Noisy AFT
Thanks - the link was very useful. Still don't know whether or not to grease the struts but I'll try the runners first to see if that cures it.

Re: Noisy AFT
Its mainly the struts on ours, I just carry some some silicon spray in the vehicle and squirt when it dries out either side.

Squirt the stuts regularly. Also keep an eye on the runners

Hello,
Well I use silicon spray on all the runners, then have the roof up and down a few times.
I have been advised not to use spray on the struts as the seals clean the struts when the extend and retract and the spray could damage the seals. Saying that its similar to my suspension forks on my mountain bilke and i do ensure the struts are clean on that.

I can't see how it is possible to generalise about what might damage the seals - maybe research a bit more about what is best, but they need a wipe with something (did I read somone on here sayig they used marge?)

Yes, I guess she could clean my struts OK
