Diesel automatic - filter confusion

Post by comrade wolfie » Wed Apr 06, 2011 10:51 pm

I've read that I should get the gearbox filter changed when I get a service done.

I can find oil filters, air filters and fuel filters but no gearbox filters.

The garage where I had it serviced said they could get one but it'd be £68 +vat and they were sure I could get it cheaper.

So - what is one and where do I get it?

Thanks.

You need to change your reading habits................
When the gearbox sump plate is removed the the mesh filter just needs washing not replacing.

Thanks for taking the trouble to find that rita but as has been pointed out I mis-read the servicing advice  #-o

As it turns out there was a lot more filter confusion than that. The garage appear to have fitted the wrong oil filter resulting in all the new oil they'd put in being dumped in my parking space, which would be bad enough if I'd noticed it before I drove off. Luckily I did notice the oil light and went straight to the garage - about 2 miles - with no oil - so I'm hoping against hope that the engine is OK.

My partner reports that the neighbours aren't too happy with the trail of black stuff in front of their newly acquired home ...

Sounds like a garage to give a miss.......I would look for another who have some sort of clue what they are doing.
