Post by kitebeach » Tue Oct 03, 2006 4:01 pm

Had wonderful time with ford frendi (bongo incognito!) have tinkered and played with it. Have been off road and just when i thought nothing could go wrong the side door locked and wouldn't open.

Its still locked now sat outside. I've taked to it I've said nice things i got cross with it and said nasty things, ive got tools out but carn't figure out how to take the inside door handle off to get inside door pannel off. Ive tried everything. i feal such a idiot ive stipped and rebuild cars in my youth ive taken and put most of this van apart and back together but i cannot get inside sliding door to figure out why its locked.

1st question has anyone ever been locked out of sliding door!
2nd how is it fixed
3rd out of interest how do i take inside door skin off sliding door which must include inside door handle

My thanks to anyone able to reply as soon as possible as would like to take friends out in it. :D [/b]

Hi Kite,
Might not be that serious this!!
Dont jump in and start dismantling yet.

Have You tried reaching round from the front passenger door and pulling the plunger pin up or down on the sliding door.

Mine sometimes sticks but I have found to lock it if I reach over and give it a slight push only very slight it works fine.It is intermittant with mine sometimes it sticks sometimes it doesnt. Its as if the pin isnt quite lined up right with the plastic surround.Bit garbled I know but I have tried to describe what happens with mine.
Have a fiddle with the pin first before you start taking the door apart.
Could save You a load of hassle!

Cheers Dave

locked door

thanks for your replies they where most helpful im fighting with door handle now.

problem lies i think with the electric door locking device u know the one that makes the "urrrrg" as u close door id doesnt seem to make any noise anymore we think it might be dead! we have checked fuses nowt wrong there. and now its just down to figuring out whats inside the door that could go wrong.

my thoughts is that u can have the worlds best designers make the worlds best van but put 5 kids in there with pop drinks and sweats somethings likely to break.

once i descover problem and fix it will post step by step solution to it. thanks for help with door handle was feeling a right idiiot not able to get it off now even with instructions we are struggling.

best regards and thanks

locking door

Fixed door thanks guys. seems electric lock wasn't dead but had nickers in twist. if you should have same problem here is solution.

1st remove plastic around window (no biggy)

2nd you could try removing handle but with door locked this is a problem! look for a copper coloured split pin around the head of handle it holds it to the door pin and is a pain to as on mine was found between handle and other grey spacer. follow instructions from previous link OR lose control and welly it with a flat head screwdriver!!!!! works just as well.

Or 2nd if u can do this or a 3rd. remove as much as top of the pannel as possible with flat headed screwdriver. Trying to not break pannel buy using screwdriver to pull out white fittings from car body leaving them in pannel u are removing. (learn from our mistakes and dont break board in pannel) if u can pull out most of the top u might be able to reach down and give the lock a good hit or two which we found to be our problem as it had jammed on lock. If not u need to remove pannel completely and then u will find a plastic sheat covering everything inside door. removing this is easy but very very messy if tried. (luckily we didnt have to do this) beware the black glue.

to easy to mention how to put back together u can put pin back in handle before re attacting it and then just press it on thats the only thing worth mentioning.

thanks for help door handle was perplexing how to get off.

anoying as hell as we just touched the locking mechanism to see what was wrong with it and the thing kicked into life again. :D

thanks again with help

best regards
