Almost overheating

Post by delbouy » Sun Feb 27, 2011 10:10 pm

Hi I have recently changed my head gasket but on flushing and re filling the cooling
system I have encountered a problem, the problem is I have filled and bled the system but although the bongo doesn't overheat it runs a little hotter than it used to but the bottom hose and the radiator stay cold. I put this down to the thermostat so I changed it but I still have the same problem, and as my radiator is only 12 months old I don't think it is that.
So has anyone any ideas as I am running out of ideas and hair!!!!!!!!!!!!!

have you bleed it properly could be airlocked

What caused the gasket failure in the first place & has that been dealt with? If so the most likely cause of running hot with new stat & rad is insufficient bleeding. If thats the case, it could lead to another head problem.

Do both heaters blow hot?

How convinced are you the initial bleed was adequate?

How are you measuring that it is running hotter?

is water circulating?

If not then.

A hose is blocked
Rad is blocked
Thermostat is not opening
There is a huge airlock somewhere
could be the water pump impeller is slipping on the shaft saw that before.

Was you absolutely certain that it was just the gasket that needed replacing? The head was removed and pressure tested? [-o<

Stats dont always open easily, sometimes you have to hold revs at 2-3000 or take it for a short run, have header tank cap off and bleed pipe stop out and hold revs hig for a couple of minutes, usually clears most problems. Is the system pressurising after you've had it running?
