Is my 1996 V6 Petrol a SG5W engine?

Post by longwori » Thu Feb 17, 2011 2:27 pm

Hi,

Im just lookling to buy some filters ready for an oil change and it says "suitable for Mazda bongo 2.5 V6 Petrol SG5W 01 Nov 1997 -31 Dec 2002" and there are no parts listed for 2.5 V6 Petrols prior to this date. As mine is a 1996, will this be ok?

Its on http://www.japautosolutions.com/acatalog/engine.html

Cheers,

Ian

I think it's a J5-DE engine - they sell the filters in the Bongo Fury shop 8)

The Bongo Fury shop does not differentiate on the year of the vehicle for a petrol V6 which is a little worrying or maybe they are all the same?? Who knows!!

Also the Bongo shop charges about double the price for a full filter kit for the V6!

My 95 V6 is a SG5W engine. model E-SG5W. This is from its original suppliers Japanese paperwork. As far as I know the V5 engine was the same right through the production run. Certainly no change in 97.

It sounds like a safe bet that mine is too then. Thanks guys.

After a bit more searching on the forum, it looks as though the VIN plate has this SG5W code on it so I will try to find it and see that mine has that on before I place my order.

Cheers,

Ian

You can check out your Bongo's specification on the Russian Bongo Club Website which has been translated for us thanks to Google.

On my vehicle information sticker in the passenger door, it says the engine is a CE06024 and the VIN begins SG5Wxxxxx I guess this means I am ok.
