Tyre Size advice

Post by Flint » Sun Jan 16, 2011 11:01 pm

This question may have been asked before, but I have searched and can't find an answer, so here goes...

I've just inherited a set of almost new alloys, of the correct weight loading (690kg), fitted with 215/70-15 tyres, which again have the correct weight loading. I know that the normal tyre size is 215/65-15, so my question is, has anyone used this slightly larger tyre? Will it foul anywhere? Are there any downsides to using it (I know that the speedo will be slightly out, but can live with that)?

It would be nice if these will work, if not I will bite the bullet and change them, but with less than 2000 miles on them, they are like new!!!

Your help on this one much appreciated,

Simon

Some Bongos, ours included, are specified (on the Mazda vehicle plate) with your size of tyre - it may be winter spec Bongos, I'm not sure. Anyway, they cause no problems and where they were specified, the speedo was presumably adjusted to match, as ours is spot on with them - e.g., against satnav read outs. The little bit of extra ground clearance is useful too.
