Oil on floor underneath van

Post by alexandersupertramp » Thu Jan 06, 2011 8:40 pm

I have noticed a small patch of oil underneath the bongo the last couple of days. I have looked under but can't see any dripping.
Anyone got any ideas where it could be comming from?
It's a '97 modal if it helps.

Cheers, Alexandersupertramp.

Oil filter, sump plug, overspill when topping up/filling ????? I guess you need to get it on a ramp and remove the engine tray and give it a good check out...

Best I can do without being more specific on the area :? :?
I am the only bongo in the village.......(not anymore there's two of us now "Damn it)

Is yours the only vehicle it could have come from?

Have you just topped up and possibly a little run off?

Worth putting down some newspaper or sawdust to narow it down.
Take a torch, toilet roll, and tea bags.

Hi,it would be worth while checking the oil filter as they have a habit of needing tightening now and again.
PS if you look in from the passengers side, check the undertray to the right it has an indent that usually fills with oil if the filter leaks..

Cheers..

I guess you are 100% sure it is oil.

From my own experience, it could be steering fluid, a common complaint usually traced to the steering rack.

Cheers everyone, Rita I think you have diagnosed my problem.

This looks like what my problem is.

Next thing, can you nice people in the Bongo community give a newbie some advice on tightening and also changing the oil filter.

Many thanks, Alexandersupertramp.

I think there is a fact sheet in the member area, which is currently free to access.
