knocking

Post by accrag » Sun Dec 19, 2010 2:13 pm

this is doing my head in, have had a knocking now for a least a year like some one banging underneath with a hammer. happends at certain speeds, or when reversing out of drive, have changes all tyres to suit have changed prop shafts, work for a while but then come back again, has anyone out there had the diff box or transfer box changed, this could be it. it does feel if tho it is knocking in the middle section of the bongo, any suggestions much appreciated, accrag

Anti-roll bar drop links?

Try rocking the Bongo  and have a listen.

Would be a cheaper fix if that's the problem.

Is it going over bump related...?
Cheaper by comparison to a race horse...

I've a very similar problem mate although mine seems to be just a tad more to the drivers side. Can't be droplinks as its not always there when going over bumps. Don't think its steering either as that feels fine....its an odd one but too damn cold to get underneath and have a look!!

Doesn't have to be there all the time for it to be droplinks (if it's lumps n bumps related), mine was giving intermittent knocks & bangs for months, which have now become more constant. Check out anti roll bar busshes & brackets too, could be a broken bracket which isn't always immediately obvious.
See if a local type tyre & exhaust place will stick it on the ramps for a proper look see, could be an exhaust knock or wheel issue after all
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

DEFINTLY KNOCKING JUST BEHIND THE DRIVERS SEAT IN THE MIDDLE, YOU CAN ACTUALLY FELL THE KNOCK AS THO ITS BEING HIT WITH A HAMMER. THERE IS SLIGHT GIVE ON THE FRONT PROP TO THE TRANSFER BOX. SO THAATS WHY I THINK IT MIGHT BE THAT, WOTS FINK, THANKS
