I had a similar problem to this. Initially the pulley on the alternator sheared off so obviously the belts were not being driven and the warning lights showed.

I fitted a re-conditioned alternator from Bell Hill Garage, but the warning lights still showed. I thought it was a faulty alternator until i checked the voltage and this showed the alternator to be OK. What i did find was the that i hadn't tightened the nut enough and the belts were a bit loose causing them to slip. I found once i had tightened the tensioning nut on the alternator the warning lights did not show.

It has been OK for a number of weeks but the problem has just re-ocurred and the belts seem sufficiently tensioned. Therefore i'm looking for a alternative solution, i'll start with the fuses, fuel filter etc!

I'll let you know how i get on.

Could be a battery problem?

The alternator is working fine, however the battery is not being charged. I assume that the battery is duff and needs to be replaced, or could it be a connection problem between battery and alternator?

Anyway, the battery charge and a sediment lights have been showing for a while and the battery, without being recharged by the alternator, finally gave up the ghost and i couldn't start the Bongo. Funnily enough it was outside the garage i was taking it too, unfortunately they didn't seem bothered and recommended i took it else where!

Could easily jump start it with the Blackspur compressor and it drives perfectly after that, but with the battery not being charged the i have
to jump start it every time.

A garbled message but my basic question is will a duff battery cause the sediment and battery charge lights to show?

Theres A very high chance that it will be the alternator brushes are worn, very common aspecilly if the light goes out when on the upper rev range as the brushes will start to make slight contact with the rotar ,eventually it will pack in all together but a simple overhaul at any auto electrics will sort it out for a lot less than a rip of Mazda new one ????????.
