Just fitted new offside cv joint, (at last no noise when I am slow turning).
cv joint from jap spares ?38.
Only problem no skin left on my knuckles and you need arms like a gorilla.
The main reason for my message is, after doing the job I wasent abolutlysure the the main center nut was on as far as the original, the van drives ok, but I was slightly concerned, I have not done one before and I am not 100 % that you can get it wrong.

driveshaft nut
There is usually a high torque figure for the nut, Have you compared the ammount of thread through the nut with the other side?
Duncan,
Is the bit you are putting the nut on, actually a bit of the new part you have fitted? I think that a new CV joint usually has the shaft bit that goes through the hub as a part of the new gizmo. If so, then the new one may not be precisely the same thread length sticking out? Otherwise agree with MW.

Cheers for the suggestion, I will check the other side to compare.
I bought two cv joints and I have looked at the new one and compared it to the old one. I think my confusion is caused by nut, the orginal is threaded right to the top, the new one is recessed by approx 5 mm.
so in hindsight it just looks different, when I do my other one I am going to do a couple of things different, so not to confuse myself.
my van drives ok, so fingers crossed its right.
ps, yes the center nut is very tight
Cheers for the replies Duncan
