Help required please

Post by CADMAN » Mon Oct 25, 2010 4:08 pm

After reading the threads on headlight bulbs I decided to have a go myself so I bought some Extreme brilliance bulbs from Halfords (H4’s), tried to fit them today managed to get the old ones out but struggling with replacing the clip back into place with the new bulbs. Very limited space around the back of the headlight so can’t see what going on. So I am stuck with no lights fitted. :( Can anyone help me I have checked the data sheets but not that helpful? By the way my bongo is the new shape model
Cheers

The big question is - have you got the bulbs properly seated in the mounting?

If they aren't exactly right you will have trouble getting the springs back in properly.

it's easier said than done, and even trickier to explain... But, if you wiggle the bulb (try to rotate it) you will discover whether it is seated correctly or not... If it is sat flat then the bulb will maybe move a fraction or so, if it's sat awkwardly it sort of jams and won't budge at all. Short of removing the headlight, you'll have to fit the bulbs by feel, or maybe use a torch and a mirror... It's one of those things i'm afraid, some peeps can fit a bulb in a matter of seconds, others can take an age... it's down to the dexterity of one's fingers really... Best of luck. [-o<

I tried again last night without success, used a mirror as you suggested but with little space to get my thick fingers in and hold a mirror and try to see what I was doing was near impossible to move. I will have another go today.

Thank you for your advice Scanner & Bigdaddycain

Update:-
:D :D Finally managed to fit the bulbs but only after taking the front grill & headlight units out then it was so simple...Now to clean the haze off the headlight plastic, I should be able to manage this little job
Cheers

I always take the headlamp off - it's a simple job and makes fitting the bulbs so easy 8)
