Leisure battery tray not big enough??

Post by andyfb78 » Wed Sep 06, 2006 12:40 pm

Hi,

I bought a leisure battery tray, dimensions as per the one for sale on this site......

I'm being told the largest battery available (by Autolec) that will fit is an 85Ah....
The 110Ah is 330mm long (too long for the tray)...

Am I being a muppet and missing something?

Or does anyone know where i can get a bigger capacity battery that will fit on the tray???

Ta

Yeah a bummer isn't it? I fitted a tray as bought from evil bay. Afterwards I went to Towsure with measurements for a leisure battery and sure enough the 110Ah one was about an inch too big for the tray. I bought the cheaper 85Ah one instead. To be honest it's not a problem as I only run the fridge and occassionally a DVD player. I also tend to only free camp so move on every day thus regularly charging it up and could probably have not even bothered with a leisure battery at all. Obviously I don't know your own particular requirements but do your maths and work out whether the loss of 25Ah will really be such a great loss.

Thanks.... doh! or not?? ;-)

My use varies greatly and it would be nice to have the extra.... might call for a bit of heavy use of the hammer and metal clippers.....

But I'm fitting the leisure battery such that it is totally isolated from the main battery (except charging obviously).... so if it does go flat i'll have a short reserve on the main battery and know that I need to do a charge run.

I can't see that I'll be doing long stays without going somewhere...

On an aside... does your username imply you use veg oil? Mine is running biopower stuff.... seems happy.

Would members recommend 110mah or 85mah - for weekend camping - using the battery to power a dvd player only

I have now made a tray that will take a 110 amp battery.
Better than evilbay.
