Hi all
I have an M reg 2 wheel drive Bongo with a full conversion on which I changed all tyres a year ago. After 8,000 miles I have found that the first inch of the outside on the front tyre has gone completely bald, and about half an inch on the rear is starting to go. I had all of the tyres re-balanced at the time, and the tyre company didn't think the tracking was out
When I took it back for a replacement front, the company still insisted all was OK with the tracking, however, suggested that there is excess weight on the offside of the vehicle causing the problem.....I am a bit portly, but not that fat!!!!
Anyone else having this problem, could it be down to the conversion? Any recommendations will be appreciated as a new set of tyres every year hurts a bit!!!
PS:
To all fellow Bongonauts who were recently in France waving and flashing at my green AFT on the route south via Le Mans, many thanks, I am sure that the French must think we are mad
Cheers
Serge

Re: Excess wear on driver's side tyres
Sounds like a weight problem as it's both offside tyres only. What size tyres have you got and what pressure are you running them at?

Re: Excess wear on driver's side tyres
Hi John
Thanks for the reply, the tyres I use are 205/55's on TSR alloys and I tend to put 32 llbs both front and rear, hope I am getting this right
Thanks again

Minimum should be 35 psi but with a side conversion I would go for:serge wrote:Hi John

38 psi front and 40 psi rear, perhaps more if it's fully loaded.

As above, i'd be tempted ro run a higher pressure and see if that evens things out, you'll see an improvement in fuel economy too! I run 45PSI, but that's on low profile 18" tyres.

Chaps
Many, many thanks.....to me it looks like having too low pressure in the tyres plus the added weight of the conversion is causing this......am off to pump up the tyres and see what happens, seems pretty obvious to me....why didn't I think of this....but I am very nice but dim
Thanks again, always love the help on here
