Number plate lights

Post by Trish&Brian » Sat Aug 14, 2010 7:21 pm

The Bongo failed its MOT on a front ball joint plus no number plate lights working.

The bulbs are good but there is no power going to the connector block that hides in the top of the rear door.

All the other lights etc seem to be working but there doesn't seem to be a special fuse for the number plate lights - or is there?

I see there was an old thread on this but it didn't give an answer and is now locked.

Can anyone advise please?

Many thanks

Could be the wiring from the body to the door chafed/broken?
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

Most likely as Kirsty says above, the fuse for the Tail, Number and Sidelights is;

They are all powered via a relay from that fuse so its not going to be the Fuse or relay as all the other lights would have failed.

Thanks for prompt responses!

Sadly no power is getting to the block connector that comes out of the body. Not sure where I would have to go to do a continuity check. Is there another connector somewhere in the back of the Bongo behind the plastic facings perhaps?

Yup the Number plate light is on connector E3-05 & E3-06, but that feeds back via several other connectors;

If you click the "Go Forward one page" arrow then all the locations of the connectors are shown for the diagram so X31, X28 & X09, if you need the pins of the connectors they are on page 140+

I have let you down folks! I tried hard but just couldn't work out how to check all the connectors without tearing out all the panelling.

I cheated and took a spur off the side light and all is well and I should get my MOT.

The other fail item was the ball joint on the lower front wishbone - thanks for the fact sheet on this procedure by the way! £40 bought the ball joint and it was pressed in with a mate's hydraulic press - no heat required. The hardest part of the process was getting the old castellated nut off - I eventually took the disc cutter to it :evil:
