what's this bit of engine, please help to identify

Post by Annandale » Sat Aug 14, 2010 10:44 am

Hi, i've tried to upload a photo but failed.

The bongo was being checked last week by garage where I bought it. When I got home a piece of black plastic was lying in the back. It's too far to travel back to garage, the owner is ill, I've called but had no reply.

You lot will know what it is in an instant. From squinting at photos of engines, I am 90% sure it sits vertically between the battery and the radiator. It is a thin sheet, black about 15 in long , 7 in deep, irregular shape, with a couple of holes in for fixing and one sort of button to attach it with and one button missing.

Will it do any harm if I drive about without it? What can I do about the missing button?

I'd be very grateful for any light you can shed on this - am totally non technical and husband is even worse!

Many thanks

yer OK without it for a while.. Sounds like some kind of splash guard for the front of the battery..?
Fixes by 2 scrivets to the air intake for the cab...

Yes it sounds like a splash guard as jaylee say
Mine is cable tied to the air intake for the heaters and then just tucked in behind the rod that holds the battery down. :D

If you look at part 618-20 (in the broken lined box) http://www.lushprojects.com/bongopartsm ... mgno=.html
The part you speak of not pictured for whatever reason.. Runs off the back of that fixed by the 2 scrivets.. (should be two holes at the back edge on the left for it to fix to.)
Then i think it kind of.... Hang on! Here it is...? 132-04??? http://www.lushprojects.com/bongopartsm ... mgno=.html :D

I've just checked my bongo and found mine is missing :( - How important is it to have one and can anyone point me in the direction of someone who might have one?

Thanks......

Don't think it'll create any serious issues, if you want one though, try contacting the guys that are breaking bongos in the breaking bongos section or the like of Bongobits, Bellhill, Allans, Wheelquick, etc that break bongos. Or just make one, it's just a flat bit of plastic
