Steam pouring from the side of my Bongo - help!

Post by rhodthomas » Wed Aug 11, 2010 4:15 pm

Hi,

We are on our first camping trip down in Devon with the Bongo.

After a short drive back from Woolacombe beach, steam started pouring out of the side of the Bongo (drivers side) just as we got back to the campsite.

I've called the AA to take a look... any suggestions on what this could be?

This Bongo is causing me stress...

Nearest Bongo garage is A&R motors in Barnstaple - Alec and the boys are great and have looked after me really well. 01271 322854

Good luck!

Someone will be along shortly who can give more specific things to look for.
Can you be a little more specific about where the 'steam' is coming from?
- The main return from head to radiator top hose connection is on the offside (driver side).
- Has the expansion tank level dropped much?

FBI Dave beat me to it.

Hi guys,

So there was a split in the top hose. AA man turned up and spotted it - bandaged it up, then A&R have booked Brandy The Bongo in for 8am tomorrow to fix it.

Phew, i might make it home after all!

Thanks for the tip off, much appreciated.

Hi we've just got back from staying near Woolacombe, sorry we didn't see you and could have helped out. Hope it's all fixed now.

The AA man may have bandaged it up but did he refill and BLEED ? If he just refilled and no bleed (bleed pipe under passengers seat) DO NOT DRIVE THAT BONGO ANYWHERE untill it has been bled..(nor even 100 meters...It could cost you £2000.

Seriously...DO NOT DRIVE IT. get it recovered to the garage....
