Good luck with it

You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.
Re: hose split (thermostat to head)
well the hose arrived today so i started straight away to replace it. the hose was split around the back at the top were it goes into the head.
i also changed the alternator belts while i was at it,cos i had them in. they was bought when i fit a new alternator but they only sent one out at the time,so no time like the present. should of got an aircon belt but never mind.
the bongo bleeding video came in handy (full praise to all involved), cos it was the first time i'd bled the van on my own and help from my son . will just have to keep an eye on things.
here's piccie of the culprit hose.

cheers kev...

a weekend wasted, is not a wasted weekend.

That's a good result.
When Haydn watched my husband bleed a Bongo many years ago who would've thought it would eventually result in a video, showing a similar method, on youtube. The method Haydn uses is shown on the video, and it's not quite the same as Allans uses, but Haydn has used it succesfully many times.
Don't forget it's worthwhile keeping an eye on the coolant level in the header tank for a few days after a job like this.

Allans Garage retired. Try PGS (Plymouth Garage Services) or Mayflower Auto Services Plymouth
