FIP rotary sensor (pulse generator) from fuel pump needed

Post by dangam10 » Thu Jun 17, 2010 6:20 pm

After two weeks of not really knowing what is going on, thanks to the advice I have received on here I have managed to find out what is wrong with my van. The problem now lies with finding the part that I need, which is not proving to be very easy

I am trying to find a sensor that fits on this zexel pump(no. 104700-0530 ) (Bosch no. 9460613453) The part number is 479765-6320 (Bosch no. 9443611796). The sensor is called a FIP rotary sensor (or pulse generator).
Hope somebody can help!!

My van is a 2002 2.5TD 4WD Mazda Bongo

Thanks

NB, the extremely helpful post i received is attached here below (it includes some diagrams)

Hi. Do not buy new pump. Tested yours. May be you need replace only FIP rotary sensor.
Service code P1189 is FIP rotary sensor signal system
Detection condition: During engine turning when the NE signal from the FIP rotary sensor normally it is not input to PCM
Fail safe: Detecting engine rpm with the crankshaft position sensor
The cause of being thought:
1)Breakdown of FIP rotary sensor
2)Harness between FIP rotary sensor B terminal - PCM 2D terminals, broken wire of connector, short circuit
3)Harness between FIP rotary sensor A terminal - PCM 2K terminals, broken wire of connector, short circuit
PCM terminal(Visual direction: the harness):

FIP rotary sensor harness(Visual direction: the terminal):

Have you checked the continuity through the harness in 2 and 3 ?

Julian,

All I can say is thankyou!! Got hold of Merlin Diesel systems and although the part i was after isn't available in the UK they were very knowledgable about my particular pump and sold me a sensor that was virtually the same. It cost £50 and simply screwed in the side of the fuel pump. A week ago I was bracing myself to flush a grand down the toilet! To say I'm happy is an understatement!!

Incidently, for anybody else with similar problems....the guys at Merlin Diesel were unreal. Incredibly helpful and really know what they are going on about. Make them the first port of call, could save you a lot of money!!!
