Dunno. Clutching at straws really.

Fuel consumption is up a bit too.

Most weekday journeys are 6 mile eachway commutes over fairly hilly terrain & often in heavy traffic. Sideways thinking tells me that when cold the EGR only opens on fast idle & that may be where the oil was going.

How did you disable the fast idle? I'm wondering if you inadvertantly disabled the egr as it comes from the same vacuum supply - http://www.lushprojects.com/bongopartsm ... 1of02.html

Were they under the drivers seat? if so why? if they weren't then the fast idle is just broke, it can't be affected from under the bonnet, the cold start fast idle should still work. check the vacuum tubing under the drivers seat is intact, it's easily broken at the solenoids due to the brittle plastic.

Cheers K.

I'll fathom that out at the weekend.

I've noticed that you're not always right but you've never been wrong all the years I've been on here.

I'm sure I'm frequently wrong & don't mind admitting it if I think I am :P but I do like to check all the options & find the right answer

Aside all that then - are you certain that the air con having insufficient gas, thus not firing the compressor, is unrelated to the fast idle?

Cold start fast idle should still work, but the fast idle that kicks in with the a/c won't work if the pressure's too low I don't think.

Guys & girls.. If yer talking about these things?

I figured the one on the left is cold start.. But, the one on the right not only does the AC but kicks in on the cold start & picks up the revs for longer too! (& is by all accounts more prone to failure.)

I replaced the one on the right... If you go for a used replacement go for the one without the white spot!!! At some point i plan to take one apart & find what makes it tick!
Cheaper by comparison to a race horse...

Kwikfit where I am wouldn't even look at mine, they just said - 'that won't be on our system if it's an import.'

Asked if they could do it manually if I got them all the info needed (from here), no - as it wouldn't be able to check for leaks without being on the system :?:

Oh well...

And they have to go on a course to gain a licence to use those machines as well as a course to operate the machine. So they have to be exceptionally stupid not to have retained any of that.
The fact is they just want to take the easy pickings.
I wonder they didn`t tell you your pads and discs needed changing.
Take it to a specialist or an decent independent.
