AirCon Recharge.

Post by mister munkey » Sat Apr 10, 2010 5:05 pm

Zipped into Kwik Fit today as the heat coming out of the front blower is considerably warm, even on 18c on auto.

They stuck a hose connected to a machine on the blue screwtop thingy in front of the rad, read it as being the same as a B2500 (?) & let it run its course for half an hour.

At the end of the cycle it read Leak Found - Needs Repair.

The lad who had proudly told me that he'd been on a 2 day course on this particular machine recently had no idea what to do next.

Any of you lot any ideas???

When I bought mine I was told the aircon needed recharging but I decided to get an independent aircon guy to check it. Turned out it had a fractured pipe (near the charging point inI wd front of the radiator. Luckily the vendor was able to call in a favour with mate and one was made up and fitted aircon regassed, within 24hrs otherwise I might have pulled out of the deal (the other half would not have entertained a Bongo without aircon!). Might be worth contacting an independent aircon man to ask if they can get pipes made up and/or identify leak location?

Don't know about Kwik-Fit, but garages normally have an air-con gas detector to find leaks - it was part of the gassing machine where I worked :?

You might be able to find the leak yourself with an aircon dye?

I was always under the impression that the Air Con machines..... purged the system and then refilled it including leak sealant/oil/gas to the measured amounts........
Another alternative...... and they do work, I can vouch for it...... the EZ-Chill aerosol jobs from Halfruads and the like..... they too contain leak sealer/oil/gas...... I have had the experience to use one on a vehicle...not mine though..and the same symptoms as your describing Chris.....

Noticed coming home this evening that when I flick the A/C on I'm not getting that ghost foot effect, popping the revs up when the air con kicks in.

Brilliant I thought, just a fuse!! Had a look at the fuse factsheet, found the right one , prised it out & was chuffed to find nasty black stuff on the spade terminals. :D

Unfortunately the fuse itself is intact. :(

What next?

Is there a relay I need to look at?

Have a look at the 2 little vacuum actuators above the fuel pump under the drivers seat (mitsubishi badge on em probably) one controls cold start fast idle & one is the a/c fast idle, could be the actuator is duff, connections need cleaning or the vacuum pipe has broken. Most bongos I've looked at they don't work.

Ok. Worth a look.

Possibly unrelated but for about the same amount of time that the A/C hasn't worked the fast idle from cold has been fluctuating up to about 1200rpm.

Could be a clue . . . .

Most aircon gas has a dye in it, if there's a leak your man shines a UV light around the system and says, "Here's your leak Mate".

This is rather more help than, "Computer says, 'Leak' ". ](*,)
Take a torch, toilet roll, and tea bags.

My proper refill after blanking off the rear cost £40 & they had a proper sniffer jobby to check for leaks (used it to check my home made blanks)

Swap the white connector over with the other one & switch on the aircon.. If the revs come up it's the vacuum actuator?
That's how i sussed it!

CAN ANYONE HEAR ME?

THE PUMP AIN'T WORKING

I may be a small soft toy & more than happy to be corrected but surley if the system isn't pumping, it isn't going to leak.

1st job is to get it pumping then I may have some chance of progressing . . . . .

Is there a relay involved here?
